“There’s a bird on the roof.”
I nervously stepped out the truck and looked on top of it. There sat a bird much bigger then I expected. A beautiful pigeon with purple and green on its neck. I slowly reached for my phone, so I could try to get a quick photo. It moved a little, but stuck around. Then it started lifting one of its feet up and down like it was saying “My foot, My foot”, so I decided to see if I could pick it up and check on it.
Success, but I couldn’t really look at its foot because it grasped my fingers with them.
Some guy at the gas station asked about it cause he’d never seen someone be able to pick one up. We tried to check it out again, but then boxed it and took it to the job site with us to let it go.
It was having some issues in the box so i had to help it stand and stay still which mostly consisted of it grasping onto my hand. At the job I put it out on some grass and it did this weird circle walk like it was falling down. Tried a few more times and the same thing happened except it climbed up on my foot to stop. Boxed it again, but it couldn’t stand up, so we made it a makeshift fencing in the grass. Luckily we had some actual fencing in the truck.
Stuck it in there and made it a water bowl and then got back to work. After a bit I had a break and I went to check on it. As I was walking over to it, it took flight. It circled a round a few times and tried to land on the power lines and missed. He made another two rounds and then landed. The whole time I was trying to call it back, he he.
It stuck around on the power lines for the rest of the day just watching us.
It made me feel really good this mini adventure.
He was my friend, but 4 a second :)
I named it Pigey :)
It was a much needed encounter, no matter how fleeting.
